Weekend Sports
Weekend’s debut, LP Sports actually has instrumentals. They’re accompanied by the droning vocals of the trio’s Shaun Durkan. I’ll say they’re my favourite new artist. I enjoyed sipping the music into my head. But I hate the de-emphasized vocals. It sucks when you want to get an artist but can’t hear what they’re saying (okay, well maybe if you’re really awesome you get away with it). More vocals and less feedback/noise would get Sports onto my iPod forever. Weekend have a potentially awesome future. 7/10

Avey Tare is bassy.
So I liked him keeping the weird ‘distinctive’ Animal Collective sound. Down There sounds like a new Animal Collective album. But I hate the over emphasized bass. I don’t like being at a club while trying to just chill out and listen to music. I want to skate around, eat crunchy cinnamon cereal or just breathe for that matter. Adding loud bass and taking the yelps out (Hi Strawberry Jam!), makes the music dull. With that out of my system, the album is not completely terrible – 6/10
Again, it’s just missing the yelps. And that gets in they way of me crunching cereal.

Mauren vs. Lauren: A Murder Story
‘Who’s there!?’ a whimpering voice cried.
‘It’s me again.’ Replied an icy, sleek voice.
‘Oh… thank… th-thank goodness I was worried it was-‘
‘-worried it was me? You were weren’t you, you contemptuous… Why do I even bother?’
‘I’m sorry, its just that I’ve been nervous.’
‘No reason to apologize, that quiver in your voice says enough. You pathetic little bitch.’
‘Oh!’
‘Silence!’
‘Okay… I’ll be alright, I swear’
Then, Mauren and Lauren dragged Daniel’s body into the trunk of the car and proceeded to push it into the swamp.

Hauschka - Foreign Landscapes
Hauschka’s Foreign Landscapes is an overwhelming album. It’s an album that takes control of its audience. Each song creates a mood powerful enough to change your mood. Eyes closed listening to the album makes it easy to forget where you are. The entire atmosphere changes with the music. It’s a great album to ‘zone out’ to or just relax. Fans of Patrick Watson may enjoy this album because of its orchestrated wonder and intensity. If I were forced to choose a favorite song, I’d choose “Alexanderplatz“. But I do enjoy every song from the album, great album. 7/10.
